2012 Terry Fox Run
On the afternoon of September 28, 2011 the students of Swan Hills School participated in the annual Terry Fox run. This was a culmination of close to two weeks of fundraising on the part of our students. As the students were assembling in the field before the run, chants of “Terry! Terry!” were heard above the wind. It was fantastic to see parents and younger siblings come out and join the students. At the end of the run the students assembled in the gym and prizes of t-shirts were drawn.
The students would like to thank family, friends, and the community for helping to raise $2 869.78 for cancer research. The Grade One class raised $859.00, the Grade Three class raised $653.00 and the Grade Two class raised $607.50. These classes and the five Junior and Senior High students who raised money will be treated to a pizza lunch next week as a big thank you from the school.
The school would also like to thank Mr. Bourque for coordinating the event, Mrs. Irving for counting the money and communicating with the Terry Fox Foundation, those fast students who got out in front and lead the different divisions through the course, the Senior Boys and Girls Volleyball team members who waited along the route and pointed the way and cheered the participants along, and Mrs. Johnson and the lunchroom crew for preparing the hotdog lunch that students could purchase with a $2 donation to Terry Fox.
