New Principal Appointed
Pembina Hills Public Schools (PHPS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Slade Sekulich as Principal of Swan Hills School effective the 2017-2018 school year.
Slade is returning to Pembina Hills Public Schools from Aspen View School Division, where he served as Principal for three years at Rochester School, Kihew House School, and Maskwa House School. Previous to this, he taught for the Alberta Distance Learning Centre for several years before becoming a Program Coordinator for the last five of his twelve years with ADLC. He began his career with Northern Gateway School Division, teaching in Fox Creek School and then Hillside Junior/Senior High School in Valleyview. In each of his roles, Slade has worked to build strong connections with the community and to cultivate meaningful relationships with students, staff, and parents.
Slade obtained his Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta, with a major in English and a minor in Drama (and intends to one day complete the minors he began in psychology and theology). He completed his Masters of Education with Athabasca University, focusing on student support and instructional leadership.
Slade is a strong advocate for rural schools and districts, believing they have potential for offering students unique educational experiences difficult to obtain in larger institutions. When asked, “What can you do in a small school?” His answer is, “What can’t you do in small school?” Slade is looking forward to working with the students and staff of Swan Hills School, and is eager to help further connections between the school and the community.
