The current pandemic has changed the way we deliver educational programs to our students. Currently preparations are being made how the 2020-2021 school year will operate. Much is unknown at this time and, unfortunately, there are questions that remain unanswered.

Pembina Hills School Division released an update last week. I encourage you to read it as it has an overview of how the Division is preparing for students to potentially (and hopefully) return to school in the fall. Please follow this link, PHSD June 25th Update. If the link does not work, please go to the Pembina Hills website.

Details for re-entry to Swan Hills School have not been worked out yet. Alberta Education has set a date of August 1st, at the latest, to let schools know which of the three scenarios will be in effect for September. As schools prepare, we are committed to keeping families informed. Please check for emails and look on our website for updates.

Physical distancing will take place where possible but it is not practical nor possible in our classrooms and buildings all the time. Everyone has different comfort levels regarding the pandemic, and I encourage students, families, and staff to wear masks if that gives them comfort in coming to school. I ask families to talk about what returning to school will look like if there are some that choose to wear gloves and masks. In some classes, this may be a requirement or a mandate for all from Alberta Education. I do not want to speculate but want to mention it as families prepare children to return to school in the fall.

I wish everyone a joyful summer. Staff, students, and parents have done their best in the past few months and their efforts have not gone unnoticed. This has not been easy and, unfortunately, not everyone fared as they might have hoped. The 2020-2021 school year will bring new possibilities and an opportunity to learn from our experiences.

Sincerely,

Slade Sekulich
