Swan Hills School’s grade 10 students are excited about the upcoming Experiential Career and Life Management (CALM) & CTS program that will have them travel to the Palisades Stewardship Centre in Jasper National Park for a week of outdoor learning activities that will meet outcomes for a variety of high school courses. From September 24 to 28, together with students from Barrhead Outreach School, SHS students will learn and practice team-building, photography, land art, canoeing, orienteering, and environmental stewardship skills, among others, while completing requirements for CALM course programming in and around the Palisades Centre.
Although other experiential programs such as outdoor education do run in the school district, this is the first time Pembina Hills Public Schools students will participate in a program of this particular type to meet outcomes for a series of courses including CALM 20, a 3 credit course required for high school graduation. While outside the Centre’s classroom, students will engage in exciting, hands-on activities anticipated to meet outcomes for Career & Technologies Studies (CTS) courses, including Leadership Fundamentals 1 (HSS 1080) and others.
This is the first time Swan Hills School and Barrhead Outreach School have run the Experiential CALM & CTS program, and we are excited to offer this opportunity to our students.
