FreshGrade – Notice to Grades 4 & 5 Parents

In Swan Hills School, Grade 4 & 5 teachers use FreshGrade to communicate with parents. The ‘new build’ is expected to be available by the end of September.

What is FreshGrade?

FreshGrade is an App that offers parents and guardians a view of their child’s learning. It is like a digital portfolio in which you only see information posted about your child. Many of the teachers in our school choose to use FreshGrade as a way to share information about individual student progress.

Parent / Guardian Access

We will provide you with access to the items posted by your child’s teacher, or by your child. You can respond and comment on the posts. FreshGrade is a tool that increases the engagement between student, teacher and parents / guardians.

When will this start?

The ‘classic’ version of FreshGrade was used by some teachers over the past few years. This summer, the company redesigned the App from the ground up. Unfortunately, the rebuild is not quite finished. They expect to have everything working by the end of September. The new version is called FreshGrade Next.

What about PowerSchool? How is that related?

PowerSchool is the main student information system used in Pembina Hills. It is what we must use to communicate with provincial student information systems. PowerSchool is the tool that we use to create year-end report cards. Many teachers use it as a way to communicate with parents too. It’s possible to share marks and information using PowerSchool, but is less useful for direct parent engagement. That is, PowerSchool is one-way communication; from teachers to parents. FreshGrade offers the chance for students and parents to interact with teachers about the work that is posted.

What do I need to do?

Nothing yet. As soon as the company releases the new version, our tech team will load students into FreshGrade Next. Soon after that, we’ll share details on how to download the free App onto your phone, tablet or computer. Then, you can begin to view and comment on the posts.

We encourage you to respond to the posts that teachers and or your child make. When you show genuine interest in their learning, they will be motivated to achieve.
