Nine Swan Hills School Students, from Grades 4 – 8, traveled to the Westlock and District Science Fair on March 6th. Seven projects in several categories were judged with the result that five of them came home with awards and will be proceeding to the Edmonton Regional Science Fair on April 6th & 7th.
Jayln M. presented the experiment she designed with her partner Harlow S., “Homemade Bouncy Balls”. Unfortunately, Harlow was under the weather and could not attend, so, on behalf of them both, Jaylyn accepted 1st prize in the Grade 4 Chemical Category.
Aden K. won 2nd place in the grade 7/8 Life Science category with his demonstration on the topical subject of, ‘Sports Related Concussions: Is it Worth the Risk’.
Swan Hills students swept the Grade 5 Biological category, with Owen M. winning 1st for his demonstration of, ‘How Our Eyes Really See’, Serenity Y. taking 2nd with her, ‘Lemon or Potato Battery’, experiment, and Bethany T. scooping the 3rd place prize for showing the, ‘Difference Between a Male and Female Brain’.
Other Swan Hills presenters are to be commended for their excellent effort: Avery R. & Ainslea K. for, ‘Slime & Related Projects’, in the Grade 5 Chemistry category, and Mya F. & Shelby G., for ‘Experimental Crystals’, in Grade 7/8 Chemistry.
