Last year, the government-funded breakfast program provided a list of the items that each school could purchase with the funds. The garden tower was on the list. Swan Hills school breakfast program committee agreed this would be a great investment for our school, and it connects to various science programs about plants. The lettuce grown on the tower is used in the lunchroom. The peas, cucumbers, beans, and tomatoes will be used for the breakfast program, and the herbs will be used in the food courses for grades 7-12. The preschool came and watched some of the lettuce being harvested and they took it back to their room to wash, and then enjoyed a salad. The tower garden has proven to be a great learning tool and is utilized by the entire school.
