Two updates were shared with SHS families today via SchoolMessenger. Below is a combined, and up-to-date version of the parent messages.
SHS Families:
We have another update and positive news to share with parents and guardians!
Building Update
Significant work has taken place by restoration crews to remove snow and ice from the school roof, allowing for ongoing structural assessments. The structural engineer has confirmed that it is safe for students and staff to return to the north end of the school. Restoration crews have also been busy removing debris from the schoolyard, and snow and debris have been collected and moved to a designated, fenced-off area. Work continues on the roof and structural elements in other areas of the school.
As part of standard safety procedures for a building of this age, additional testing for asbestos is being conducted. Any materials identified are expected to be minimal, based on previous testing completed by the school division, and students and staff will only be in areas that have been confirmed safe. Any required abatement work will be completed by qualified professionals following strict safety protocols, and every precaution is being taken to ensure a safe environment for students and staff.
