School Closure & In-Person Learning Update for SHS Families

The following message was shared with SHS families on March 11:

SHS Families:

We wanted to share an update on Swan Hills School following last weekend’s windstorm.

Restoration crews have been on site and have been working to carefully remove snow and ice from a portion of the roof so they can fully expose the area and assess the building’s structural integrity. This process is taking some time, and additional testing may also be required.

At this time, we are planning for the possibility that the school may also need to remain closed next week while this work continues.

With that in mind, we are incredibly grateful for the support of our community partners who are helping us to prepare temporary classroom spaces so in-person learning can continue as soon as possible. We know how important routines are for students, and our goal is to keep learning moving forward while minimizing disruption for families.

[Temporary classroom information for March 16-19 was provided in the message to families.]

Busing – Kindergarten to Grade 7

In the morning, buses will pick up students at a designated bus stop and bring them to the Keyano Centre parking lot for the morning classes. After the morning class, students will be transported back to their bus stops. The same process will take place in the afternoon for students attending the afternoon classes.

Transportation will confirm specific bus times with parents.

TO RIDE THE BUS, please complete the Temporary Bus Registration March 16-19 Google Form for your child, even if your child is already registered to ride the bus this year, by Friday, March 13 at 12PM.

Early Learning Parents

There will be no Early Learning programming while the school is closed. We are continuing to review options for the program should the school closure extend beyond next week, and we will share more information with Early Learning families as soon as decisions are made.

Thank you

We would like to sincerely thank our families and staff for their patience and flexibility, and extend our deepest appreciation to our community partners as we work through this situation together.

We will continue to share updates as soon as more information becomes available.
